Terrapin Town Hall in Reston VA

Maryland Athletics and the Terrapin Club held another Town Hall meeting tonight in the Sallie Mae Building in Reston, VA.

Maryland fans were able to mingle with coaches and athletic department staff prior to the program which featured Athletic Director Kevin Anderson, Head Football Coach Randy Edsall, Men's Soccer Coach Sasho Cirovski, Wrestling Coach Kerry McCoy and Women's Tennis coach Howard Joffe. The Voice of the Terps Johnny Holliday was the emcee.

So it was a great chance for me to shake hands with Coach Edsall, hear what AD Kevin Anderson had to say, find out more about other sports at Maryland and hear a story or two from Johnny Holliday.

Topics addressed during the Question and Answer session:
The Terrapin's Radio Network going to Red Zebra Network and ESPN 980 next season. There will be minimal conflicts next season for both football and basketball in the DC area and in Baltimore too.

The lack of support at basketball games as the season wound down. Anderson said he and his staff will work more with the students next season but the bottom line is winning and both he and Gary Williams were disappointed at how things turned out this season.

One person mentioned how Virginia Tech always had a huge following around the DC Metro area and what are the Terps doing about marketing. Anderson will be addressing this in the future to get the word out about Maryland Athletics, saying the Town Hall gatherings all over the DC Metro area were a start where Terp fans and alum can meet new folks and find out more about the other sports.

Anderson also mentioned Maryland is looking at future home football games in Baltimore and are in discussion with several schools (Penn State?).

Former Maryland Linebacker Eric Ogbogu kicked things off getting the audience fired up. Ogbogu played in the NFL eight seasons and is currently working for Under Armour. He's "Big E" in the Under Armour commercials and he's the one saying, "We must protect this house!" in the ads.

Johnny Holliday was the emcee of the evening.
